Evergreen 1.4, release candidate 2 was released yesterday. Be sure to grab the new 1.0.1 release of OpenSRF when building it.
With this release comes support for internationalization (i18n), so a call for translations has been put out. For those more comfortable with spoken languages than programming languages, this is a great way to contribute to [...]

Unicorn records now imported into Evergreen
Posted in Evergreen, tagged Evergreen on November 15, 2008 | 1 Comment »
After successfully importing our ~141 000 Innovative bib records into Evergreen two weeks ago, I finally got around to beating our ~300 000 Unicorn bib records into an importable state. They are now in our test Evergreen system. Working without a unique catalogue key and with too many duplicate TCNs (in 001 fields), my temporary [...]

The first Evergreen Newsletter has been published. I’m even in the background in one of the pictures!
Meanwhile, I have now successfully imported our ~141 000 Innovative bib records on to our new Evergreen server (currently running a test install of 1.4 release candidate 1). The organization held its AGM last week and I began the [...]

I finally got around to blowing away my 1.2.3.1 Evergreen test installation and instead tracking the SVN trunk build (including OpenSRF trunk). With all that excitement, I missed the announcement that Evergreen 1.4 release candidate 1 is now available. You can download the source tarball here and installation instructions for Ubuntu 8.04 are here.
OpenSRF version [...]

I’ve been out of commission with a terrible head cold for the past week, so I missed quite a lot of interesting news!
First, in late May 2009, the first ever Evergreen Conference will take place in Athens, Georgia. I’m finishing up my MLIS one month prior to that date, so it’s unlikely that I’ll be [...]

The latest stable version of Evergreen, 1.2.3.1, can now be downloaded. It includes a whole bunch of fixes and is likely the last 1.2.3.x release before the 1.4 release candidates start becoming available.
In other news, I managed to import some sample MARC data into my 1.2.3.0 installation without too much trouble. However, I suspect that [...]

The folks over at Evergreen are busy getting ready for their 1.4 release. Apparently, the first release candidate will be ready for the end of September. In the meantime, they’ve also posted a video preview of their new acquisition system, which will be released in version 2.0.
I installed VuFind this morning, which was quick and [...]
Evergreen on Ubuntu 8.04

Evergreen has installation instructions for Ubuntu 7.10. Using those same instructions, I have now managed to get it running on Ubuntu 8.04 without too much trouble.
Really, the only 8.04-specific trouble that I ran into was with the Staff Client, which wanted XULRunner 1.8.x (Ubuntu 8.04 comes with XULRunner 1.9.x). If it’s not beyond me, I [...]
Very Humble Beginnings

My first patch for Evergreen, a 1-liner, was submitted and accepted by the upstream developers.
Meanwhile, after one or two tiny issues, I managed to successfully install Evergreen 1.2.3.0 on my laptop (which runs Ubuntu 8.04).
So I’m off to the races!

I learned a lot of lessons at my first “real” job, which I started back in September 2004. It was a small telecom company and the software team was essentially four people when I began (including myself, as the ultra-junior programmer). One of the best habits that got instilled in me was the attitude that [...]
